Video of the live rally from Donald Trump’s rally in Pennyslvania show Trump glance to his right before grabbing the right side of his face, with Secret Service rushing the stage. After speaking for around five minutes, Trump dove onto the stage and was covered by Secret Service agents, who surrounded Trump as he raised a fist.
A photo on the Washington Post website, taken from an off-stage-left angle shows blood on the right side of Trump’s head, apparently coming from his ear.
UPDATE 8:18 p.m. BIDEN STATEMENT SUMMARY: Biden says he’s been “thoroughly briefed.” says he tried to get ahold of doctors. “There’s no place in America for htis kind of violence. It’s sick. It’s sick. …. We cannot condone this. … The Trump rally should have been completed without any problem. … Everybody must condemn it. Everybody.” Asked if this was an assassination attempt, Biden said he did not have enough information to make that determination.
UPDATE 8:04 p.m. ET: Per the Washington Post, President Joe Biden said in a statement that Americans “must unite as one nation” to condemn the shooting at former president Donald Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania.
“I have been briefed on the shooting at Donald Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania. I’m grateful to hear that he’s safe and doing well,” Biden said in the statement. “I’m praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally, as we await further information.” Biden added his thanks to the Secret Service for the work they do to protect them.
UPDATE 7:56 p.m. ET: Biden was reportedly at Mass at the time of the shooting. He was briefed about the assassination attempt after leaving the church. He is now at his home and receiving real-time updates.
UPDATE 7:54 p.m.: A CNN contributor reports that the shooter, still unidentified, fired from the roof of a single-story building on the agriculture site. Countersniper teams returned fire and killed the shooter.
UPDATE: 7:48 p.m.: Kip Tom, a former UN deputy ambassador for Trump, was in the crowd and said he saw puffs of smoke from behind the stage then another set of smoke puffs as he heard the pops. “There might’ve been a second shooter,” he claimed without evidence, unaware the Secret Service took out the gunman. He said everyone who went into the venue went through metal detectors.
UPDATE 7:19 p.m. ET: Two reported dead including the shooter according to county DA, Washington Post reporter posts. DA says Trump was grazed by gunfire.
UPDATE. 7:16 p.m. ET: Bulter County DA reports one person dead at the scene. It’s unclear if the dead person is the alleged shooter.
UPDATE 7:08 p.m. ET: Campaign spokesperson released a statement saying, “President Trump thanks law enforcement and first responders during the heinous act. He is fine and is being checked at a local medical facility.”
UPDATE 6:46 p.m. ET: At his beach house in Rehobeth Beach, Delaware, President Biden has been informed of the situation.
