Agents with the Department of Homeland Security on Monday seized Venezuelan dictator Nicholas Maduro’s plane from an airfield in the Dominican Republican and flew it to Florida, CNN reports.
“This sends a message all the way up to the top,” a DHS official told CNN. “Seizing the foreign head of state’s plane is unheard-of for criminal matters. We’re sending a clear message here that no one is above the law, no one is above the reach of US sanctions.” The plane, valued at approximately $13 million had been sitting in the DR for several months, but officials didn’t disclose why.
