Texas surpassed one million coronavirus cases Wednesday, becoming the first state in the US to surpass that milestone, CNN reports.
While the virus hit the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut the hardest during its first wave, the last five months have seen an explosion of cases in states that did not implement public health guidelines like mandatory mask wearing and social distancing.
Of the top 25 states with the most infections per capita, all but two (Illinois and Minnesota) voted for Donald Trump in the 2016 election.
