A Politico/Morning Consult poll shows that the Trump Administration directive to open schools to in-person classes in the Fall does not sit well with most voters.
Most unpopular is Trump’s proposal to withhold funding from school districts that refuse to hold in-classroom sessions is particularly unpopular, with 65% of Americans against the idea. Only 22% support such defunding.
Half of those surveyed opposed fully opening colleges and universities, with 53% against opening elementary and secondary schools.
While Trump believes his push to open schools would ingratiate him to suburban and female voters, that beliefs appears to be unfounded: 55% of suburban voters oppose opening El-Hi schools, as do 56% of women.
The poll surveyed 1,992 registered voters between July 10 and 12 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
