The fire that destroyed parts of the cathedral in Nantes, France today is being investigated as a possible case of arson, authorities announced according to reporting by the Washington Post.
Investigators found three points of origin for the fire at Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul Cathedral, which destroyed the church’s organ but was quickly contained before it could do widespread damage, leading investigators to suspect a man-made cause.
The fire rekindled memories of the inferno that largely destroyed the iconic Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris in April 2019, but thankfully, this blaze was far less destructive.
“After Notre Dame, Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul cathedral, in the heart of Nantes, is in flames,” said President Emmanuel Macron on Saturday, in a statement posted on Twitter. “Support for our firefighters taking all the risks to save this Gothic jewel of the city of the Dukes.”
