So here’s a little behind-the-scenes insight into the operations of NatZero: we don’t do photo rights. We don’t have staff photographers or videographers. That’s why we use so many things from other sources. So you’re gonna see a lot of Twitter posts in this story.
So here, on the edge of the end of 2020, let’s look back at some of the images of 2020.
Pelosi tearing up Trump’s State of the Union.
In an act of defiance and disgust, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi rips to shreds, literally, her copy of the State of the Union immediately after Trump completes it on February 4th. Trumplicans claimed it was a federal crime; in retrospect, it foretold the disaster the year would become.

The California Wildfires
Nearly 4.4 million acres burned in California so far this year, destroying thousands of homes and taking 33 lives. Four percent of the state burned, making it the most widespread fire season in the state’s recorded history.

People wearing facemasks
It was met with resistance by Trump supporters–and is still mocked by some hardcore idiots–but mask wearing may have been the fashion trend of 2020 that will continue on for years.

The Pretty Fly for a White Guy
In the middle of the only Vice Presidential debate, a fly landed on Mike Pence’s head and stayed there for a good 2-3 minutes. An oblivious Pence didn’t shoo it away. (To clarify, Pence is generally oblivious to the situation around him. The fly just capitalized on that.) They fly stayed with Pence longer than some White House staffers.

Food lines
Cars lined up for miles as families tried to get food in the midst of the pandemic. The photos, particularly the ones from Texas, showed literally miles of cars waiting to get to food distribution sites.

The nationwide BLM protests
BLM had been protesting for years, focusing attention on racial injustice in policing and the legal system. They came to a head in June, after the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota, who died after a police office kneeled on his neck for eight minutes.

Trump creating a photo op to hold a Bible
In the midst of unrest in cities around the country as citizens protested in support of the Black Lives Matter movement, Trump instructed the Department of Justice to use force and tear gas to clear an area in from of St. John’s Church at Lafayette Square so he could march over with civilian and military leaders for a photo op with him holding a Bible.
[For the Year in review:] One iconic photo of the Trump presidency, from a pure photo op, is President Trump holding his Bible upside down. pic.twitter.com/Y29rUbnDsX

Hospitals. Waaayyy too many people in hospitals.
Patients stressed the capacity of hospitals around the world as coronavirus patients sought care. ICU beds were filling up. Brave and dedicated health care workers put themselves in danger to treat patients at all levels of care. And daily, we saw reports from hospitals of suffering and death.

Giuliani melting on live TeeVee
Rudy Giuliani took to the podium to advocate for disenfranchising millions of American voters, in a further fevered claim that Trump actually didn’t lose the president election by seven million votes. But like his claims, Giuliani started falling apart right in front of us.

Biden-Harris named election winner
It took a few days after Election Day, as most rational Americans understood, but in the end Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were declared the winner of the 2020 presidential election. And here’s to hoping 2021 is better.
