- Hearing Republicans appeal for unity during the House impeachment debate makes me wonder how they rectify that Democrats should “unify” with Trump supporters who attempted a violent coup to undermine the Constitution. I, for one, have no interest in unifying with insurrectionists.
- Amazing statistic: 45% of Trump’s senior staff positions in the White House (not the Cabinet) had three or more people in them in Trump’s single term in office, according to Brookings. In all, Trump’s staff had a 92% rate for the top 65 positions. Only five original staff members stayed with the administration all four years; two of them were family members Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner. That’s an astounding turnover rate.
- Trump had six communications directors and six deputy national security advisors in 48 months. On average, those positions turned over faster than a full-term pregnancy.
- How will we, as a country, survive without a pillow manufacturer as a presidential policy advisor?
- I wouldn’t be surprised if Trump sues Pelosi for trademark infringement after she mimicked him by holding up the Impeachment document she had just signed so the TeeVee cameras saw her signature. “That’s my move! MY MOVE!!!”
- How many of us remember Cindy Sheehan? She was the mother whose son was killed while serving in Iraq, and she kept a four-weeks-long virgil in 2005 outside GW Bush’s Crawford, Texas so-called ranch to protest the war. Republicans called her the representation of how “crazy” and “unhinged” Democrats had become… which seems quaint now that the exemplar of a Trump supporter is a bare-chested, tattooed 33 year-old man wearing bison horns who lives with his mother.
- Colbert, then Kimmel, then Fallon. But only if he has a good musical guest.
- Witnessing the prime time viewership of Fox News plummet literally 60-80% (more on this in a piece next week) gives me a suitable amount of glee. Perhaps more than when Biden was announced as the next president. The downfall of Fox News means that the next wannabe-Trump won’t have a sole network capable of launching his campaign.
- Is it too late to remind Trump that he promised us nine months ago he was going to deliver a health care plan in two weeks? Think we can get a peek now?
- Jenna Ryan. Larry Brock. Nick Ochs. “Bigo” Barnett. Jenny Cudd. Derrick Evans. Klete Keller. Eric Munchel. Kevin Seefried. Jake Angeli. None of these names will have the historical impact of “Benedict Arnold” or “Jefferson Davis,” but they’re just as treasonous.
- The fact that Donald Trump wasn’t evacuated from the White House or sent to the Bunker (where he reportedly watched the coup attempt at the Capitol with glee) when there was a violent attack on a federal facility just 9,000 feet away tells me that Trump knew his followers weren’t a threat to him, even if they were to members of Congress.
- We are on the verge of having an entire generation who won’t know how to drive a stick shift.
- I think we can say that overall, Operation Warp Speed was a bust. There was no significant ramp-up of production of newly-developed vaccines. The administration had no plan for national distribution. Because of this, Trump will be responsible tens of thousands of American deaths, on top of what would happen with his previously-known incompetence.
- Kellyanne Conway will be a guest on Real Time with Bill Maher tonight. And so starts the rewriting of history by Trump apologists and abettors.
