Random thoughts Friday, Volume IV

  • We went through more than a week of daily media briefings by the White House without one reporter asking about a tweet from the President.
  • The Conways.  Wow.  That’s not a car wreck.  That’s a 300-vehicle pile-up.
  • I like how Biden is rolling out policy initiatives based on specific topics every day.  It allows people to digest important points of the issues over an entire news cycle which thankfully is longer than three hours like it was 10 days ago.
  • I swear to God my dog knows how to tell time.
  • The fallacy of the Republican argument that Trump cannot be impeached and tried for actions done in office is in direct contrast to the original intent of the Framers of the Constitution:  impeachment is mentioned four times in the document as a way to punish office holders for actions done in office.  It was created as a way to prevent unworthy people from again holding public office.  By claiming that Trump cannot be tried for actions done in office is the equivalent of giving any Executive branch official carte blanche to break the law in his final days in office.  Think of this:  under Republican “logic” if Steven Mnuchin and his wife Cruella decided to take a pallet of cash from the US Treasury on January 6th at 11:45 a.m., the government would not be able to impeach him to prevent him from holding office in the future.
  • After (allegedly) sharing a photo of her teenage daughter and the various videos of her berating and verbally abusing her daughter, no media outlet should invite Kellyanne Conway on, and if they do, it should only be for a story about child abuse.
  • As the spouse of an educator, I suspect that parents yelling loudest to send kids back to school aren’t interested so much in education as they are about getting the kids out of their houses.
  • Mitch McConnell saying that he would burn the Senate to the ground if he doesn’t get his way demonstrates the sincerity with which Republicans seek unity.
  • Best burger cheeses (in order): Blue.  Swiss.  Gouda.  Cheddar.  (And if you put any cheese besides blue on a steak, the cow died a meaningless death.)
  • QAnon will never die.  It will linger, with fewer and fewer adherents in years to come.  Like all disaster cults, they’ll claim that they have the facts right, but the date wrong over and over and over again.
  • My wife asked me to cut about two inches of her hair off to level out her isolation-lengthened locks.  She’s a very trusting woman, and it was the most terrifying two minutes of my life.
  • For a Party that claims to have the military on its side, the GOP’s silence on the Stolen Valor attempts by Madison Cawthorn and Tom Cotton is damning.
  • Why isn’t the soundtrack from the Biden inaugural’s  “Celebrate America” program available for purchase?
