Federal investigators are pursuing allegations that Florida Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz may have paid young girls with money, including cash from his campaign, and drugs in his liaisons, CNN reports.
Gaetz was accused of transporting a minor over state lines for purposes of sexually exploiting the girl, a report that first became public on Tuesday night. Reportedly, federal agents have witnesses and evidence that Gaetz provided drugs and money to the girl in that account and to other minors. The investigation is focusing on whether Gaetz violated sex trafficking and prostitution laws.
Gaetz has made some very odd claims while trying to mount a defense, including pulling Fox News host Tucker Carlson into his account by claiming Carlson and his wife accompanied Gaetz and a presumably young female to dinner, an event Carlson said he didn’t remember.
