Google has announced that it will continue its work-from-home policy at least through July 2021, as the tech giant prepares for a long-term impact from the coronavirus pandemic, CNN reports.
In a memo to employees obtained by CNN, Google CEO Sundar Pichai said the company has reopened 42 offices around the world. The company continues with its global voluntary remote-work allowance to help employees deal with personal circumstances and needs as the pandemic impacts countries around the world.
“To give employees the ability to plan ahead, we’ll be extending our global voluntary work from home option through June 30, 2021 for roles that don’t need to be in the office,” CNN reports Pichai wrote. “I hope this will offer the flexibility you need to balance work with taking care of yourselves and your loved ones over the next 12 months.”
Google’s decision may prompt other corporations to adopt similar policies to help employees plan for future needs like remote-learning for school-aged children.
