Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was found guilty of second degree murder, third degree murder and second degree manslaughter for the death of George Floyd. The verdict was read Tuesday at 4:10 p.m. CT. Chauvin was found guilty on all charges.
The judge revoked Chauvin’s bail and remanded him to custody pending sentencing.
The jury had been presented with three charges: second degree murder, third degree murder and second degree manslaughter relating to the death of 46-year-old Floyd last May after Floyd was accused of passing a counterfeit $20 bill at a neighborhood store.
Chauvin was filmed kneeling on Floyd’s neck and back for more than nine minutes. Evidence presented at the trial showed Chauvin and other officers declining to call for medical assistance until after Floyd apparently lost consciousness.
