According to the Wall Street Journal, the developers of the Keystone XL have abandoned plans to object to the federal removal of permits by the Biden Administration and will scuttle the project, giving environmental activists a major victory.
Canada’s TC Energy Corp. and the Alberta provincial government said on Wednesday that it would no longer pursue the plan to ship Canadian crude oil through the United States to processing facilities in the United States.
On his first day in office, President Joe Biden fulfilled a campaign promise and revoked federal permits that would have allowed the XL pipeline project to cross over to American territory. It was the final straw in a decades-long battle for TC Energy, formerly known as TransCanada, to build a third pipeline to the United States, which provides significant tax breaks unavailable at Canadian processing facilities.
