Asked by Jim Acosta why he continues to associate himself with Donald Trump after Trump “invoked an insurrection” on January 6th, North Carolina Congressman (and credibly accused alleged sexual predator) Madison Cawthorn said he doesn’t “agree with the premise of the question” and “genuinely [doesn’t] believe that there was any provocation from anyone who spoke that day.”
Acosta noted that Trump “had been telling the Big Lie for weeks and has been continuing to lie about the election” and finding a new “standardbearer for the Republican Party.” Cawthorn noted that he thinks he’ll be the future–“I do look forward to being the future of the Republican Party”–but disagreed about Trump: “Donald Trump is leading the way on that. I think you and I know we have a complete disagreement. I *do* believe the election was stolen.” Asked for proof, Cawthorn said, “I think there’s a lot of proof if you look at the states I personally contested to [sic].”
