A growing number of schools are finally putting their foot down with the anti-vax bullshit and telling faculty and students if you want to be work or study at this school, you have to get your jabs. Cornell University recently posted to their website that “Cornell requires vaccination for students returning to Ithaca, Geneva and Cornell Tech campuses for the Fall 2021 semester.” The same requirement is in place at other top named schools like Harvard and Columbia University.
Other schools, including state university systems are following the lead of the Ivy League schools. The State University of New York system and the state University of Virginia have mandated vaccination on all of their campuses.
The laggards in this case are (not surprisingly) schools located in states that have Republican governors and Republican dominated state legislatures. The Texas state university system is “requesting” that students get vaccinated, but is not requiring proof of vaccination.
The Florida State University system also has no mask or vaccination requirement in place for students attending classes this fall. The Florida State University system website says that administrators “expect” students to wear masks on campus and to be vaccinated, but also admits: “While our authority is limited by the State of Florida and the university cannot mandate vaccines, testing or mask wearing, we are promoting these mitigation efforts.”
Top ranked state universities have become very competitive as college tuition rates have increased over the past several decades, and at top ranked State Universities one should expect to see almost all of the students wearing masks. The massive Covid19 breakouts are likely to be at the non-competitive state schools that offer degrees in programs like massage therapy and agricultural management. Those campuses are likely to be filled with young people raised in a MAGA environment, and they’ll be walking around without masks, without their jabs, and spreading the Delta variant around just as fast as they can.
