On January 21st, 2021, amid the shitshow over newly-sworn in QAnon adulteress Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene’s social media history being full of insane statements about school shootings being false flag attacks intended to turn public opinion in favor of gun control, Media Matters also found a comment of hers from 2018 agreeing with another Facebook user’s assertion that the September 11th, 2001 attacks where also a secret plot orchestrated by the Bush Administration.
On Saturday, Greene tweeted this:
May God bless the family and friends of those who were lost and God bless our first responders.
This is a day we #NeverForget pic.twitter.com/XvVMfKQLm3

Greene’s hypocrisy on the matter here is pretty cut and dry. Surely her fans will argue that it’s consistent, that Marjie is saying “Never forget [the false flag attacks on 9/11/2001]” but the rest of us see a pretty blatant lie by omission. It’s the simplest example of a shift that I personally believe has gone largely unsaid in the center-left media world of these last few years: The fact that 9/11 truthers (and adherents of other fringe conspiracy movements of the first decade of the 21st century), once deeply paranoid of and hostile to one Republican president’s administration became some of the most fanatic supporters of the next Republican president.
The most prominent example of this shift is Alex Jones. In June 2006 he keynoted a two-day “International Education and Strategy Conference for 9/11 Truth” in Chicago, claiming that the Bush Administration had trained the hijackers at US military bases, bombs had been planted inside the World Trade Center prior to the kamikaze attacks, national air defense systems had been ordered to “stand down”, and all sorts of other particulate details about the plot.
This and another “documentary” about 9/11, as well as a 9/11 was an inside job t-shirt are still for sale at Jones’s website in 2021.
A decade and a half later, Jones stood on the stage with President Trump outside the White House and screamed to the crowd “We have only begun to resist the globalists. We have only begun our fight against their tyranny. They have tried to steal this election in front of everyone. I don’t know how this is all going to end, but if they want to fight, they better believe they’ve got one!”
In 2011, 19-year-old New Jersey man Tom Barayani, told a high school friend on Facebook he believed the 9/11 attacks were an inside job. Ten years later he was pushing a woman through the broken window of the Speaker of the House’s lobby in the US Capitol when she was shot by Capitol Police officer. Barayani later identified himself to a news crew outside the Capitol, showing his hand covered in Ashli Babbitt’s blood to the camera.
“We tore through the scaffolding, through flash bangs and tear gas, and blitzed our way in through all the chambers just trying to get into Congress or whoever we could get in to and tell them that we need some kind of investigation into this, and what ends up happening is that someone might have ended up dead, and that’s not the kind of government we can have” Barayani said.
On June 9th, 2019 Richard Gage, founder of “Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth” told the audience at the “Red Pill Expo” conference “It looks exactly like a controlled demolition and fire. The official cause of this [World Trade Center 7] building’s collapse, has never brought down a skyscraper ever in the history of skyscrapers.” The 2021 edition of the Red Pill Expo features an array of MAGA and MAGA-adjacent conspiracy theorists, one of which promises “Evidence Continues to Mount that the January-6 Insurection [sic] was Fake”.
Never forget what these assholes said over the last few decades and who they support now.
