Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said during Sunday interviews that the threats to American election sovereignty from Russia and China are not equivalent and called on intelligence agencies to make more information available, reports the Associated Press.
“They’re not equivalent. Russia is actively 24/7 interfering in our election. They did so in 2016, and they are doing so now.” To better inform the public about the specific nature of the threats, Pelosi urged intelligence leaders to “put more information out there” on the specific nature of the threats so Americans can learn for themselves.
An intelligence report Friday, accompanied by a statement from William Evanina, director of the National Counterintelligence and Security Center, said that Russia was working through social media and other efforts to help win Trump reelection.
On the other hand, China–which does not want Trump in office–has been openly critical of the White House and uncooperative with Trump Administration policies, not directly interfering with the election process or the electorate.
“We’re not going to put up with it,” Trump’s national security adviser, Robert O’Brien, said Sunday. “We’re going to take every action necessary to keep folks out, whether it’s China or Russia or Iran or Cuba or Venezuela or others.”
