New York’s Attorney General Letitia James announced Thursday that she’s suspending her campaign for the Democratic nomination for state governor as she concentrates on pursuing ongoing investigations, including a probe into the business dealings of former president Donald Trump, NBC News reports.
James has opted to run for reelection to the AG office where she would continue to lead many high-profile investigations, particularly into the financial state of Trump’s businesses, which are subject to multiple investigations into manipulation of property valuations to avoid tax payments.
“I have come to the conclusion that I must continue my work as attorney general. There are a number of important investigations and cases that are underway, and I intend to finish the job. I am running for re-election to complete the work New Yorkers elected me to do,” James said in a statement.
