Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (Q-GA) had her personal Facebook account suspended for 24 hours after posting lies claiming that there have been mass fatalities due to adverse reactions to the coronavirus vaccines, the New York Times reports.
Greene posted the claim, basing it on information voluntarily submitted to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS), a database of unverified and frequently unrelated claims between receiving any type of vaccine and subsequent medical conditions. Like most anti-vaxxers, Greene claims that the information in the database is sacrosanct, even though the database itself notes that the incidents are not necessarily causal. For example, some of the aftereffects for people getting the coronavirus vaccine include getting plastic surgery, dying in a traffic accident, breast cancer and broken noses, none of which are possibly caused by a vaccine.
Nine people in the United States have died from a rare blood clotting condition linked to the Johnson & Johnson version of the vaccine. Other than that, no widespread significant reactions have been reported.
