Trump really did consider issuing a total blanket pardon for all participants in the Capitol riot during his final days in office, Politico reports. One source says Trump called an advisor on three separate occasions in the two weeks following the riot to ask “Do you think I should pardon them? Do you think it’s a good idea? Do you think I have the power to do it? Is it everybody that had a Trump sign or everybody who walked into the Capitol [who could be pardoned?],” and adding “Some people think I should pardon them,” per the source. Trump also reportedly believed that anyone who was pardoned would be prevented from testifying about the riot.
