Late Monday night, one day before the Senate Intelligence Committee released the final portion of its report on Russian interference in the 2016 election, Trump henchman and convicted felon Roger Stone quietly dropped his appeal of his convictions for various obstruction of justice crimes, Politico reports.
The bipartisan report released by the Senate today makes it clear that Stone spoke directly with President Trump about the release of Democratic emails hacked by Russia. Trump has repeatedly denied any knowledge of the Russian hack.
Stone’s 40-month prison sentence and $20,000 fine was commuted by Trump just days before Stone was scheduled to report to prison. Among the charges Stone was convicted of was one count of lying to Congress related to his actions in releasing those emails.
