A 68-year-old logger from the small city of Nampa, Idaho who participated the January 6th domestic terrorist attack on the Capitol received a 51-month prison sentence Friday on charges of including assaulting a police officer with a pipe, the Associated Press reports.
U.S. Capitol Police Sgt. Aquilino Gonell testified that due to the attack by Duke Edward Wilson, he had to have a bone in his foot fused and he’s had multiple surgeries to repair his shoulder. He will likely need additional shoulder surgeries.
“Both my hands were bleeding at that time from blocking,” Gonnell said. “He insisted on continuing to fight me to prevent us from closing that door, that would enable him and his fellow insurrectionists to advance in the tunnel and the Capitol as members of Congress and the Senate were being evacuated from the very same route.”
For his part, Wilson has claimed he’s innocent of the charges and that he was simply pushed with the crowd to the police line. At other point in the trial, Wilson claimed he didn’t remember anything from the day.
