American intelligence estimates that in just over three weeks of fighting, more than 7,000 Russian military personnel have been killed in action in Ukraine, a number greater than the US suffered in 20 years during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the New York Times reports. Sources called that number a “conservative” estimate, and that along with as many as 14,000 to 21,000 wounded in combat, anywhere from roughly 10 to 20 percent of Russia’s 150,000 strong army marched into its smaller neighbor has already been taken out of action. Pure savvy genius.
