Kinder Candies, those little eggs with tiny toys hidden inside, have more than just a toy to surprise the young’uns this holiday season! You also could get a surprise dose of everyone’s favorite intestinal distress, salmonella!
Reuters reports that the Ferrero plant in Arlon, Belgium has been shut down by authorities after more than 100 people who ate the chocolate candy became ill with salmonella. Kinder Eggs have been pulled from the shelves in Spain, Britain, Ireland and United States.
Those sickened were mainly age 10 or younger, and cases have been tracked to at least nine countries. Belgian health authorities warned people to dispose of Kinder Surprise, Kinder Surprise Maxi, Kinder Mini Eggs & Kinder Schokobons they may have purchased.
