Using a Presidential Drawdown Authority directive, President Joe Biden will send $750 million in additional military equipment, ammunition and supplies to Ukraine to help bolster that nation’s army in its battle against invading Russians, Reuters reports.
The authority allows the President to distribute equipment without seeking Congressional approval when dealing with an emergency. The specific equipment has not been determined, but unnamed sources say it will include heavy ground equipment like howitzers.
Since February 1st, the United States has provided more than $1.5 billion in military aid and equipment to Ukraine, including anti-aircraft Stinger and anti-tank Javelin missiles, as well as ammunition and body armor. Last week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy implored Western leaders to keep up the supplies of arms so Ukraine could fight off continuing Russian attacks.
