The Bidens made more than $600,000 in 2021 and paid an effective tax rate of 24.6%, while the Second Couple paid an effective tax rate of 31.6% on income of $1.6 million according to the tax returns released by the White House Friday, CNN reports.
According to their returns, the Bidens gave more than $17,000, or 2.85% of the annual income, to charities. Most of their income came from Joe’s federal salary, but they also had other income include $60,000 in profits from two Chapter S corporations, and Social Security and pension payments.
Vice President Kamala Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff made in excess of $1.6 million, giving about $22,000 (1.3%) to charity.
The release of their tax returns continues a tradition they restarted while in office, after four years with Donald Trump insisting that he could release his tax returns because his returns were under audit. Reportedly, in his first year in office in 2017, the alleged billionaire paid just $750 in federal income taxes.
