Calling the leak an “egregious breach of trust” without addressing the egregious breach of trust by two members of his court who apparently committed perjury during the confirmation hearings, Chief Justice John Roberts has called for an investigation to identify who at the Court released the draft, PBS reports.
In a statement, Roberts confirmed the authenticity of the draft, cautioning that the draft opinion from February is not the final version of the opinion, which will not be released for at least two months.
“Although the document described in yesterday’s reports is authentic, it does not represent a decision by the Court or the final position of any member on the issues in the case,” Roberts said in a statement. “To the extent this betrayal of the confidences of the Court was intended to undermine the integrity of our operations, it will not succeed. I have directed the Marshal of the Court to launch an investigation into the source of the leak.”
Two members of the Supreme Court–Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett “Beer Me” Kavanaugh–stated under oath during their respective confirmation hearings that Roe was settled law as a 50-year precedent, although much of Kavanaugh’s statements were interrupted by sobbing outbursts. Their sign-ons to this document appear to show their testimonies were lies.
