The leaders of seven of the largest economies in the world vowed to phase out or immediately stop the import of oil and gas from Russia in an effort to deny Russian President Vladimir Putin of much-needed funds to finance his invasion of Ukraine, the Washington Post reports.
The pledge came after the leaders of Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States had a video conference call with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Ukraine, who urged them to increase the pressure on Putin and other Russian oligarchs.
The leaders made the promise as First Lady Dr. Jill Biden visited Ukrainian villages along the border with Slovakia and Canadian Prime Minister made a surprise visit to Kyiv and Irpin, a suburb of the capital.
