The attorneys general from 22 states pledged to defend the rights of women in their states to have access to abortion, reinforcing their states’ commitment to protecting individual rights as conservatives politicians in other states attempt to defame pro-choice activists, the New York Times reports.
In a letter written by Attorney General Leticia James of New York and signed off on by the Attorneys General of California, Maryland, Michigan and New Jersey, the officials also stated that they will defend the rights of women traveling to their states from other states where abortion has been eliminated or severely curtailed.
Other state Attorneys General have taken other actions to protect the right to abortion: in Wisconsin, for example, officials have declared they will not enforce a 130-year-old law that banned abortion.
Republicans have made false claims that there has been widespread violence and riots after the Supreme Court’s decision was announced last week, even though there are only scattered reports of violence at the hundreds of protests that sprung up in the last few days.
Figures such as pundits on the Fox propaganda network and political figures such as Senator Ted Cruz (R-Quintana Roo) have made false claims that judges and adoption centers are being targetted with violence since the decision was leaked two months ago. This seems to stem from a mentally ill man with a gun turning himself in to police while in the vicinity of Justice Sobby McBeerlover Brett Kavanaugh’s house, which ended peacefully but which conservatives have now morphed into an “assassination attempt.”
