The Oklahoma State chairman of the College Republicans, Jonathan Hernandez, was arrested Friday on charges of charges of sodomy and lewd or indecent proposals or acts to a child, Tulsa World reports. The groomer, who is being held on $50,000 bail, also did a brief stint earlier this year as campaign manager on current Oklahoma Secretary of Education Ryan Walters’ bid for State Superintendent, something which Walters’ team immediately tried to distance themselves from.
“This is extremely disappointing and concerning,” Walters campaign spokesworm Matt Langston told the Tulsa World on Friday. “Hernandez worked less than two weeks for the campaign in an outreach role, but he did not adequately meet our needs. His role was terminated swiftly based on lack of performance and the campaign’s needs… [Campaign manager] was his title that we initially settled on, but there was not a management role, so that was misleading.”
Just last week Hernandez was honored by Oklahoma GOP Chairman AJ Ferate with a “Chairman’s Champion” award at a ceremony marking the opening of a Hispanic Community Center in Oklahoma City, which also featured a video message by national RNC chair Ronna Not-Romney McDaniel.
