A roughly 30-year old Toyota Corolla station wagon used by the founder of the Taliban, Mullah Mohammad Omar, to flee invading American troops in 2001–and which he buried so he would not be followed–has been dug up in Zabul province, Autoblog reports.
Omar got the feeling that if American troops found his vehicle, it would clue them into his location, so he ordered his followers to dig a huge pit. They wrapped the car in a protective layer of plastic and covered it with dirt.
Omar never saw the car again, dying in Karachi, Pakistan in 2013. The car will be removed, cleaned and used as part of an exhibition at Afghanistan’s National Museum.
