A 47-year-old Texas man whose seven dogs attacked and killed a 71-year-old man who was walking to a neighborhood store has been charged with a second-degree felony, CNN reports.
Freddy Garcia was walking through his neighborhood in Fresno, Texas when seven dogs, all pit bull mixes, set on him and inflected such extensive injuries to him he was declared dead at the scene. Officials with the sheriff’s office said Garcia did nothing to provoke the dogs.
A local news crew interviewed the dogs’ owner, Samuel Cartwright, who at first claimed that the dogs weren’t his, saying that more than 20 dogs were running wild in the neighborhood and that he called animal control to capture them. However, investigators determined Cartwright had in fact fed and cared for the dogs, but failed to keep them confined in his yard.
