A 67-year-old retired Republican member of the Alabama legislature who’s still active in Party leadership has been charged with felony first-degree sexual assault, the Montgomery Advertiser reports.
Perry Hooper of Montgomery was arrested by US Marshals Tuesday in connection with an incident that happened at 8 p.m. local time on August 16th at a downtown location a few blocks away from the state capitol. He was being held on $15,000 bond.
A vocal advocate for Donald Trump in Alabama, Hooper served in the state legislature for nearly 20 years, from 1983 to 2002. He co-chaired Trump’s 2016 campaign in Alabama.
