After doing a surprising competent job of outlining an abbreviated list of Donald Trump’s malfeasance in hiding classified documents at his bachelor pad and wedding venue in Florida, Fox host Steve Doocy asks Republican South Dakota Governor and woman who schedules a daily blowout Kristi Noem why Trump had so much classified information at Mar-a-Lago when he was no longer president.
“Well, that’s why I think it’s important that this is transparent and that we do have someone who is outside the DOJ looking at this and talking to people,” Noem replies, carefully avoiding any resemblance of an answer to the question about why Trump possessed the documents. “What, what is this information? We don’t know what was in there. We don’t know– real– I think President Trump declassified all this information. Let’s find out, really, what the process is, what is right, what is precedent that other, other presidents have followed and make sure this is done correctly.”
“Governor,” Doocy interrupts, “I don’t think any president has carted off that many documents to their house after they left the presidency.
A couple things: The judge is the one outside the DOJ who determines what’s relevant, which is how our justice system works. And the investigators are the ones who talk to people and bring that evidence into a court of law. And we have no evidence whatsoever that Trump declassified he documents or even knows the specific information in each document that was declassified because there are no indication that he actually did it. Oh, and precedent? There is no precedent for a former president illegally possessing hundreds of classified documents because no one before Trump was idiotic enough to do it.
