A Texas judge has exhibited a modicum of common sense by blocking a directive by Republican Governor Greg Abbott that requires a child abuse investigation by government agencies of families that support gender-affirming treatment for transgender children, USA Today reports.
Abbott’s order requires child protective services to investigate reports of children obtaining gender-affirming medical care as child abuse reports because conservatives can’t let people live their own lives and believe government knows better than parents.
Judge Amy Clark Meachum’s order immediately halted a case against Adam and Amber Briggle, who have a 14-year-old transgender son, as well as two other family members. Meachum also expanded her order to stop all current and future investigations.
