Brazilian insurrectionists used social media to plan “party,” saying “Children and the elderly aren’t invited”

Using a Telegram channel labeled “Hunting and Fishing,” 16,000 supporters of right-wing former president and current Florida Man Jair Bolsonaro distributed invitations to the January 8th coup attempt in Brasilia, thinly hiding their intent by calling the event a “party,” Politico reports.

On the now-deleted channel, one of the files distributed was a map with 46 pins at various locations around Brazil.  The pins corresponded to the transportation hubs where participants could get buses to participate.  Another post was an “invitation” saying, “Children and the elderly aren’t invited.  Only adults willing to participate in all the games, including target shooting of police and robbers, musical chairs, indigenous dancing, tag, and others.”

Federal prosecutors in Brazil are monitoring social media platforms and capturing information that circulated before participants can delete posts that might be used in future investigations and prosecutions.  No word if they’re looking for Steve Bannon’s social media accounts.  Yet.

The lack of self-awareness at Fox is stunning, Part MCDLXII

“And they also hired a host whom I literally never heard of,” some guy who appears on Trump advisor Laura Ingraham’s show says without understanding no one knows who he is or why the fuck he’s on television.  And if you’re supposed to be a reporter, maybe research the host before whining about him on your catty friend’s program.

In obvious sign of coming apocalypse, green comet appears in sky

Skywatchers can see a rare green comet with an estimated 50,000 year orbit when Comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) comes within 25 million miles of Earth in the coming weeks.  As ABC News notes, the comet may be visible to the naked eye during its perihelion–its closest point in orbit to the Sun–January 12th and will increase in brightness as it approaches its nearest point to Earth on February 1st.

The comet gets its unique green glow thanks to diatomic carbon, or dicarbon, in its composition.  As the dicarbon burns off due to solar radiation, it emits light in a green range of the spectrum.  In the Northern Hemisphere, the comet will be in the northwestern sky through January.  The Southern Hemisphere will be able to view C/2022 E3 in early February.

The comet was not spotted by astronomers until it was already within the orbit of Saturn, when scientists at Cal Tech’s Zwicky Transient Facility in California identified it in March 2022.  And remember:  Republicans want to cut money for science programs like the one searching the skies for comets and asteroids that may be on a collision course with our planet because they believe the Earth is flat and God will protect us… like He did the dinosaurs.

Tucker freaks out over proposed Zelensky bust in US Capitol

“Decent people are now trying to spend your money on a monument to a foreign leader in the US Capitol. That’s insane,” says rage-brained edgelord Tucker Carlson in a Wednesday rant, also calling Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky a “dictator” and all that other bullshit.

People have often compared Zelensky to Winston Churchill – the leader of a beleaguered European democracy threatened with the onslaught of a fascist empire. Both addressed the US Congress, hat in hand, asking for military aid to ensure their nations’ survival. But should this resolution pass and a bust of Zelensky be placed in the Capitol then that’s one other thing they’d have in common, as a bust of Churchill was installed there in 2013. So yes, Tucker didn’t do his homework, with the added insult of the 113th Congress, having a much larger Republican majority in the House than the current 118th, honoring a foreign leader with a monument. What a fucking dipshit.

Jack Smith subpoenas Trump campaign

Justice Department special prosecutor Jack Smith last month subpoenaed the Trump campaign seeking information on a wide range of topics related to the failed coup attempt and January 6th, 2021 Ellipse rally following Donald’s defeat to Joe Biden, the Washington Post reports.

One question that drew the Post’s attention was a request that all individual recipients named in the subpoena specify if anyone else is paying for their legal representation and to provide a copy of the agreement – a sign Smith is ready for the kind of fuckery House January 6th Select Committee star witness Cassidy Hutchinson experienced while she was testifying.

Another point that sticks out is that the subpoena specifically mentions communications mentioning Dominion and Smartmatic, indicating that Smith is looking for information on how much Trump and his minions actually believed the shit they were saying about the two voting technology companies or if – as is likely – the “questions” over them were just a convenient pretext for the coup attempt.

Biden above water in first poll since December 2021

For the first time in more than a year, a national poll shows a majority of Americans approve of President Joe Biden’s job performance in office:  An Economist/YouGov poll of 1,500 Americans taken between January 8th and 10th gives Biden a two-point net favorability edge, with a 47%-45% edge.

Even though the net positive rate falls within the poll’s +/-3.4% margin of error, it marks the first time since a Reuters/Ipsos poll from December 2021 that Biden’s numbers were “above water” in a major poll.

Sierra Mist has died. Pepsi Cola killed it, having been defeated in the non-cola wars by Coca-Cola’s Sprite brand. Starry will in a likelihood taste exactly the same as Sierra Mist, which tastes exactly the same as Sprite, which tastes exactly the same as 7UP and they all mix pretty well with cheap vodka.

Smith to decide on Trump charges as early as summer: report

Justice Department special counsel Jack Smith will make a decision on whether or not to charge disgraced former President Trump for his theft of classified documents from the White House as early as this summer, the New York Times reports. “While the possible criminal violations being scrutinized in the documents investigation are relatively straightforward, it is less clear what they might be in the investigation into Mr. Trump’s efforts to cling to power after his election loss,” the Times writes, which we copied verbatim as to be careful here and not mis-parse their reporting.

And for the libs who think Biden blew up any chance of having Trump held accountable for stealing classified documents by mishandling some himself, we’ll save the time of having to reply to each of you individually with this: Smith still has Trump dead to rights on obstruction of justice and other secondary crimes since the fat fuck knowingly defied a subpoena for their return. There’s no “optics” problem there if the standard being set is “okay, you fucked up, but we’ll let it go if you complied in good faith.” Biden did. Trump didn’t, after numerous opportunities to do so.

Matt Schlapp was desperate for young man’s affections: texts

Text messages and phone records obtained by CNN from the Herschel Walker campaign staffer who got groped by CPAC chief Matt Schlapp reveal old Schlappy acting like a jilted ex-lover the next day.

“I did want to say I was uncomfortable with what happened last night,” the unnamed younger man wrote after the disturbing incident in which Schlapp apparently had decided that since he was a star, they let you do it, you can do anything. “The campaign does have a driver who is available to get you to Macon [Georgia] and get you back to the airport,” the text continued, making it clear on no uncertain terms that the young man did not want to be alone with Schlappy ever again.

Schlappy then called the young man several times over the next few hours, each time being declined before texting back with “…if you could see it in your heart at the end of the day. I would appreciate it. If not I wish you luck on the campaign and hope you keep up the good work.”

CNN also revealed a separate text exchange between the man and a friend on the night of, with the man writing “He’s pissed I didn’t follow him back to his hotel room,” referring to Schlapp. “I’m so sorry man. What a fucking creep,” the friend replied. “I just don’t know how to say it to my superiors [that their] surrogate just fondled my junk without my consent,” the young man wrote back.

New York state GOP chair calls on Santos to resign

“I support the Nassau Republicans’ decision today to request the resignation of George Santos. It’s clear that he cannot be an effective representative and it would be in the best interest of the taxpayers to have new leadership. I will continue working with our local elected officials to ensure that trust and dignity are restored to the 3rd congressional district,” says New York State Republican Party Chairman Nick Langworthy in a statement, even though Santos already said he won’t quit.

Judge okays use of Trump’s “Stand by” clip in Proud Boys trial

At a Wednesday hearing ahead of the trial of Proud Boys’ leadership on charges of seditious conspiracy a judge authorized federal prosecutors to show the jury a video clip of disgraced former President Trump’s infamous “Stand back and stand by” message to the fascist street gang from his disastrous first debate against now-President Joe Biden, CNN reports.

DC Circuit Judge Tim Kelly ruled the clip shows “an additional motive to advocate for Mr Trump (and) engage in the charged conspiracy” for the Proud Boys to try to help keep Trump in power. A lawyer for one of the Proud Boys tried to argued that Trump’s comments didn’t reflect any of the actions leading to the charge and that be unduly prejudicial with the jury. Kelly rejected the argument, citing leader Enrique Tarrio tweeting “Standing by, sir” right after the debate. Prosecutors plan to use the clip in their opening statement to the jury as the trial begins on Thursday.

Vlad fires Ukraine war scapegoat, appoints new scapegoat

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin on Wednesday fired the guy he appointed to take all the blame for the military’s failures in Ukraine and appointed a new guy to take all the blame for the military’s failures in Ukraine, NBC News reports. The Kremlin announced General Valery Gerasimov will take over for Sergei Surovikin – just three months after Surovikin was appointed chief scapegoat.

Arrangements for Surovikin’s funeral will be announced once his date and cause of death are determined by the Russian FSB. In lieu of vodka contributions to the Kremlin are appreciated.

Sunak suspends Tory MP for comparing COVID vax to Holocaust

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Wednesday suspended Conservative MP Andrew Bridgen just hours after Bridgen tweeted COVID-19 vaccines were “the biggest crime against humanity since the holocaust,” while citing some quack conspiracy theorist cardiologist, Bloomberg reports.

American conservative Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene was not similarly disciplined by Republican Party leadership when she tweeted that “Vaccinated employees get a vaccination logo just like the Nazi’s [sic] forced Jewish people to wear a gold star,” in May of 2021. She was later promoted to chief puppet master to titular Speaker of The House Kevin McCarthy.

Trump “just asking” if his own Secretary of Transportation was somehow involved in Biden docs-Chinese conspiracy something

It is impressive, by Donald’s standards at least, that he accuses “Coco Chow,” a woman who served in his cabinet for nearly four years of being a Chinese Communist agent. Like, yeah the list of people he hired and/or nominated to government posts that he later turned on for being “disloyal” is too long to list. And he’s a fucking racist who would repeatedly write such a thing about a woman from Taiwan, not China. Nothing new there. But that he indirectly admits to having installed a supposed ChiCom fifth columnist to a key cabinet position, commanding a vast portfolio of vital economic infrastructure, and kept her there until she resigned after the Capitol riot is in a class of its own.

This isn’t defend Chao. Of course in reality she has to be a deeply corrupt sociopath if she’s married to Mitch McConnell, but that certainly was never a problem when she was serving in the Trump Administration. Hell that made her an asset. It was only when Donald realized McConnell never really cared for him and only used him to serve his own ends that Trump decided his wife’s ethnicity made her a “Chinese communist” without following through and realizing that would mean Trump had let a wolf into his henhouse. These attacks on Chao might be the Trumpiest thing ever in that respect.

Kremlin says Wagner boss full of shit on claimed battlefield win

Russia’s Defense Ministry on Wednesday publicly called bullshit on Putin’s “chef” crony Yevgeny Prigozhin’s claim his Wagner Group mercenaries had taken a key town in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region, with Kremlin officials saying fighting in Soledar was still ongoing and that a photo Prigozhin had posted Tuesday with his mercs was not actually taken in the town, the Daily Beast reports.

The Defense Ministry even went so far as to side with Kyiv on the status of Soledar, a salt-mining town considered a key gateway to the larger city of Bakhmut. Ukrainian officials said Wednesday the fighting there has been the “bloodiest” of the war so far. A Russian win on the ground in the region – part of territory “annexed” by Russia – would be their first real advance in Ukraine since early last summer, as Bakhmut has been held by Ukrainian troops since the Donetsk rebellion in 2014.

FBI seeks US victims of ChiCom harassment and repression

The FBI have posted a series of Facebook ads aimed at getting Chinese-language speakers to report if they suspect they’ve been the targets of transnational repression and harassment campaigns by the Xi regime, Axios reports. The ads, themselves written in Mandarin, have been running in the Philadelphia area ask anyone who’s been targeted by cyberstalking, physical or digital harassment, assault or extortion to contact the FBI’s Philly field office.

It’s not clear why the FBI targeted the Philadelphia area specifically, but it could be some sort of pilot program leading to a national campaign. “Many victims are not aware transnational repression is illegal. As a result, the FBI strives to educate communities about [transnational repression], the methods used, and how to report to the FBI,” the bureau said in a statement. ChiCom agents have been arrested with increasing frequency over the last few years in a number of incidents of targeted repression, with at least 19 Xi-loyal scumbags being hit with various federal charges in 2022.
