Justice Department: “An Orange County man was arrested today on a federal grand jury indictment alleging he repeatedly fired a rifle at an Orange County Sheriff’s Department helicopter after his birthday party acrimoniously ended earlier this year. Justin Derek Jennings, 39, of Laguna Niguel, is charged with one count of attempting to damage, destroy, or disable an aircraft. Jennings was arraigned this afternoon in United States District Court in Santa Ana and pleaded not guilty to the charge against him. A federal magistrate judge ordered him jailed without bond and scheduled an August 5 trial date in this matter. According to court documents and the indictment that a grand jury returned on June 5, Jennings and his family were celebrating his birthday party on March 9.”

“Jennings allegedly had been drinking and became enraged. As his outburst escalated, family members in attendance left the home. After most of his family left, Jennings allegedly removed a rifle from his gun safe and fired an entire magazine worth of ammunition inside the home.”

“The rest of Jennings’ family fled and reported the incident to law enforcement. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department responded with several deputies and a police helicopter that flew in circles around the area. Jennings allegedly then went to the home’s second story and began shooting a rifle upwards in the sky, firing only when the helicopter was visible to him. The shooting continued intermittently for at least 20 minutes, court documents state. After speaking with an Orange County sheriff’s deputy, Jennings exited the residence and surrendered.

Sources on the Republican side of the House Oversight Committee tell CNN that white nationalist Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene all but threatened Chairbilly James Comer when he privately weighed whether she should apologize to Dem committee member Jasmine Crockett after a plainly racist-y comment about Crockett’s eyelashes during the boozy hearing over holding Merrick Garland in contempt for refusing to turn over the audio of Biden’s interview with Robert Hur.

Other sources present say Greene also warned Comer that her “people” would not tolerate even the most token efforts to hold her accountable for her evil attention-whoring ways, which, per CNN, was seen “as an indirect threat that the MAGA base would turn on anyone who stands in her way.”

A new political action committee set up by the latest Republican Florida Governor who failed on the national stage aims to block efforts to pass ballot initiatives supporting increased freedom to reproductive healthcare and to use cannabis, Politico reports.

The Florida Freedom Fund set up by Ron DeSantis wants to defeat the abortion and cannabis initiatives because Democrats are pushing the issues to drive voters to the polls in November, when the measures will need 60% to pass.  A Fox News poll released last week shows more than two-thirds of voters support the bills.

“As Gov. Ron DeSantis continues to lead our great state, the Florida Freedom Fund will be championing issues and candidates committed to preserving Floridians’ freedom,” said a spokesperson who has now realized she bet her career on a widely-mocked politician. “From up and down ballot races to critical amendments, we’re steadfast in our mission to keep Florida free.”

Judge Aileen Cannon finally made a firm decision–sort of–in denying the motion by the Three Amigos of Mar-a-Lago Donald Trump, Walt Nauta and Carlos de Oliveira to dismiss Counts 33 through 41 of their obstruction and false-statements charges related to the illegal possession and concealment of government documents at the Palm Beach geriatric supper club.

In the 14-page order, Cannon manages to deny one motion, partially grant another AND delay acting on a third because she cannot do anything cleanly and simply.  In this case, she denied the motion to dismiss, granted a motion to strike a reference to an uncharged crime in the superseding indictment, and then reserved another ruling relating to privileged information.  At least she made a decision about something and didn’t delay the trial further.

The main shipping channel entering Baltimore harbor reopened on Monday, less than three months after a wayward cargo ship collapsed the Key Bridge into the river, the Baltimore Banner reports.  Officials announced enough of the channel has been cleared to allow two way-traffic in the area where the bridge one stood.

Dias’s statements were used during the Dominion trial to demonstrate that the company, its executives and its board members were aware that the misinformation they were airing had detrimental effects on the nation.  After the January 6th Republican-led domestic terrorists attack on Congress, Dias repeated implored the Murdochs to abandon Trump and stand for the rule of law. “It is an existential moment for the nation … and for Fox News as a brand,” Dias wrote in a January 2021 email. “I do not believe that the company can stay silent on this matter.”

Want even more hopium? Great! Former NYC prosecutor Tess Cohen tells the Daily Beast that whatever sentence Merchan hands down is very unlikely to be stayed at the get-go. “It’s almost never done. That’s a really rare thing. You basically have to have a very good chance at winning on appeal… No standard defendant would get a stay pending appeal after a trial like this.”

“Damian Williams, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced that Nicholas Tartaglione was sentenced today to four consecutive life sentences for his leadership role in the 2016 murders of Martin Luna, Urbano Santiago, Miguel Luna, and Hector Gutierrez. Tartaglione, who is a former police officer, orchestrated the kidnapping and murders of all four victims on April 11, 2016,” says a Justice Department press release that does not mention that Tartaglione was at least present when Jeffrey Epstein first tried to kill himself back in 2019.

A plane carrying Malawi Vice President Saulos Chilima and nine others flying from the capitol city of Lilongwe didn’t make its scheduled arrival at Mzuzu International Airport about 45 minutes later on Monday, leading officials to launch a search for the aircraft, the AP reports.

What’s unclear at this point is whether the pilot was vaccinated for COVID, if Chilima has something on the Clintons, what the Malawian aviation sector’s DEI policies are, and if the military radar spotted any UFOs in the area that may have interdicted the plane since we need to fill space and right wing conspiracy theorists might not care enough to be asking those sort of questions.
