Trump lawyer Will Scharf and surrogates North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum and Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton had a rough go of it on ABC, CBS, and NBC’s Sunday morning shows respectively, tripped up by moderators who used “facts” to counter the narrative of a convicted felon former president being persecuted by a fascist communist Nazi Marxist justice system.

Evidently unable to find someone a little more relevant to book for his weekly show Inside Politics Sunday, CNN’s Manu Raju sat down with Republican former Congressman and former Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy to ask him about his grievances with the eight GOP members who stripped him of the gavel last fall, with McCarthy naturally saying they’re scumbags – especially Matt Gaetz who McCarthy said “should be convicted” for “allegedly” being a statutory rapist and so on.

As for actually current events and not the implosion of McCarthy’s career, Raju asked McCarthy the same question all Sunday morning hosts have been asking Republicans for the past few weeks: whether he’ll accept the results of the 2024 election if Trump loses. After a good 40 seconds of equivocation with the “Hillary didn’t accept her loss” bullshit and Jamie Raskin this and Stacey Abrams that, McCarthy finally said yes, “every American should accept the result.” RINO.

Like sure, this CNN interview hits all the low notes you would expect from Lara Trump three days after her father-in-law got convicted on 34 felonies in New York City while he’s running a campaign to stay out of prison, like reluctantly telling hardcore MAGAs to stay away from committing violence if the judge locks up the fat fuck and ripping former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, a Senate candidate vying for an open seat who could absolutely flip the chamber for Republicans alone, simply for saying Americans should respect the justice system in a tweet that was posted before the verdict was read on Thursday. It’s just that we think it would’ve been more funnier if Ronna was in this bit. Maybe it’s just that Lara Trump does a better job at believing her own bullshit. Lara sputters plenty enough but far less than Ronna would have with these questions.

A new ABC News/Ipsos survey of “US adults” – meaning the most MAGA-friendly type of sample as opposed to registered and likely voters – finds that 51 percent of self-identified independents and 67 percent of “double-hater” respondents who dislike both Biden and Trump said the convicted felon former president should drop out of the 2024 election after getting nailed on 34 felonies.

In yet another example of that overlap we love so much, significant numbers of both of these sub-samples – 45 percent of independents and 51 percent of the “double-haters” – said the Manhattan case against Trump was politically motivated, meaning at least 2 percent of the indies and 18 percent of the “double-haters,” would be okay with it if a “political” case ended Trump’s campaign.

A massive explosion in an office and apartment building in downtown Youngstown, Ohio on Tuesday was an accident caused by workers cutting through an unused gas line that still held residue gas vapors, officials said, according to ABC News.  The blast killed one and injured eight.

As part of a city project to clear out old infrastructure and replace city sidewalks, workers clearing out the building’s outdated, unused piping and ductwork in the basement had cut through the pipe twice, but the third cut released a cloud of gas because the section of pipe was still pressurized.  Workers evacuated the basement, pulled the fire alarm and called 9-1-1, but six minutes after the release, the building exploded.

A Morning Consult tracking survey conducted Friday found 49 percent of independent voter respondents and 15 percent of Republican voter respondents saying convicted felon former President Trump should drop out of the 2024 presidential race, Axios reports on a result we’re not going to pretend is actually accurate or will stick given the fuckery of pollsters this year.

Hundreds of balloons started soaring south over the border Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, triggering missile warnings and national security alerts and forcing the South Korean government to dispatch hazardous materials and demolition teams to check out each of the more than 250 “deliveries” of trash and garbage that.  More balloons were spotted Saturday, triggering text warnings to citizens to be careful of falling debris.

Like a petulant child, Pyongyang is responding to a South Korea project that drops propaganda leaflets over populated areas in North Korea, a practice South Korea has done for years in an effort to destabilize the North Korea regime.

The African National Congress Party of South Africa, the Party led by the late Nelson Mandela after the fall of apartheid which has held the majority in the state’s parliament for the last three decades, failed to secure a majority in Saturday’s election, NBC News reports.

The ANC secured 40% of the vote, the most of the various Parties on the ballot but for the first time, and needs to form a coalition to maintain control.  With the third largest economy and sixth largest population in Africa, South Africa continues to struggle with widespread poverty, and many of the four dozen new opposition Parties challenging ANC leadership to take a new path.

“The way to rescue South Africa is to break the ANC’s majority and we have done that,” said main opposition leader John Steenhuisen of the Democratic Alliance Party which finished second with about 20% of the votes.
