A Florida man was cited by DeSoto County officials this weekend for cruising around town in a white pickup truck with decals and lettering resembling Border Patrol vehicles but actually read “Booty Patrol.”  Deputies cited the unnamed driver for violating laws regarding lighting on the vehicle and attempting to impersonate an official vehicle.

The publisher of a small Alabama newspaper and one of its reporters have been arrested in southwestern Alabama after publishing information from an ongoing grand jury investigation into payments to former school system employees, the Washington Post reports.  In Alabama, it’s illegal for members of the court, a witness, or a grand juror to release information, but there is no law about newspapers reporting the information, putting the charges on a collision course for the First Amendment.

Publisher Sherry Digmon and reporter Don Fletcher of the Atmore News face up to five years in prison if convicted of the charges.  Digmon is a member of the local school board, and she recently voted against renewing the contract of the well-connected school district superintendent.  The school superintendent was supported by the local district attorney, Stephen Billy, who brought the charges.  A third person, a bookkeeper for the school district, was also charged with giving the reporter documents as well as discussing grand jury testimony.

“All three of them, [including] the girl [the bookkeeper], were all charged with the same thing,” Billy said.  “But, you just can’t do that, and there’s no reason for that. Innocent people get exposed, and it causes a lot of trouble for people.”  On Wednesday morning, Billy ordered Digmon arrested again, this time for using her board position for personal profit because the school district bought $2,500 in ads in her newspaper after she was on the board, so it sounds like the prosecutor has a significant issue with the paper.

There’s an Aesopian fable about this, right? We’ve seen those calls among the sort of junior varsity slate of Republicans seeking the nomination, so I’m not as concerned” – it does absolutely underscore how badly the MAGA propaganda machine self-owned by spending the better part of a year hyping Bobby Jr. “When Kennedy goes out there and runs against that establishment, he has to appreciate it probably ends up splitting votes off from President Trump,” said JD Vance, as if RFK Jr himself hasn’t almost literally already said exactly the same, no “probably” about it.

NRSC Chairman Steve Daines on Tuesday in a meeting told his buddies that a recent internal poll found Dem Arizona Congressman Ruben Gallego leading likely GOP nominee for the 2024 US Senate election Kari Lake by 41 to 37 percent, with the seat’s current occupant, useless “independent” Senator Kyrsten Sinema in third at 17 percent in a potential three way, NBC News reports.

Daines said that it was clear Sinema was in fact pulling more support from Lake than Gallego, further confirming a theory of the race that emerged his campaign’s initial polling last year. Sinema has not yet officially declared whether or not she’ll be running again, though she has at least half-assed attempted to pitch donors on what a path to a second term would look like for her.
