Republicans apparently lied in report during Kavanaugh nomination

The 2018 report put together by Senate Republicans advocating for Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the Supreme Court omitted key facts about the nominee that appears to be an attempt to cover up questionable behavior, according to the Guardian.

Among the details:  in an infamous episode where Kavanaugh reportedly exposed his genitals to a woman while he was a college student at Yale, the Senate Republicans led by Chuck Grassley stated in the report that the woman who made the accusation likely mistook Kavanaugh for another Yale student, Jack Maxey.  The woman, Deborah Ramirez, denies she misidentified the individual who pulled his penis from his pants and put it in Ramirez’s face.

Maxey was put forth as a potential alternative, with Kavanaugh advocates pointing to a yearbook photo of the fraternity where Maxey reportedly “mooned” a cameraman as proof of his antics.  However, the person who proposed Maxey, Colorado-based attorney named Joseph C Smith Jr., was a friend of the Republican Judiciary Committee caucus lawyer, Mike Davis.  And there’s also the little fact that Maxey wasn’t even at Yale when the incident occurred; he was still in high school–details that the committee were reportedly told by Maxey and others but ignored.

Minnesota Republican apparently rolls major league phatties

Meet Republican Minnesota state senator Warren Limmer, a man desperately in need of a toke.  Limmer took to the floor of the state senate decrying the proposed bill that would update aspects of Minnesota’s cannabis law, which would allow people to grow up to eight plants (but only have four mature ones) and possess up to five pounds of marijuana at home.

Most curiously, however, Limmer doesn’t seem to understand how conversation from metric to Imperial measurements work, claiming “just two ounces is equivalent to three joints.”  Now, I don’t know what Limmer smokes, but a pretty standard commercial pre-roll joint has just one-half gram of flower in it.  That’s 0.017% of an ounce.  So unless Warren’s rolling a major fatty worthy of the Guinness Book of World Records that holds somewhere near 19 grams of weed, two ounces would actually roll between 120 and 180 joints.

Add leafblowers to list of things ammosexuals find threatening

A 59-year-old Illinois man is dead after a neighbor, taking offense with the man’s use of a leaf blower to clear his yard, took out a gun during an argument and shot and killed him, NBC News reports.  Ettore Lacchei, 79, approached his neighbor, William Martys, who was using a leaf blower for yard cleanup.  The two got into an argument when Lacchei pulled out a gun and shot Martys in the head.

Police were called to the scene when a different neighbor called 9-1-1 to report an unresponsive man in a yard on Wednesday, April 12th.  After realizing Martys had been shot, they found a loaded weapon on the ground on Lacchei’s property.  They arrested Lacchei and performed a search of his home, where they found information that Lacchei had already sold his home and was preparing to move out of the country.  It’s the latest episode in America’s “guns can resolve anything I don’t like” community.

Jim Jordan subpoenas agency chiefs over COVID “censorship”

Spandex-wearing grapple freak Congressman Jim Jordan on Friday sent subpoenas to CDC director Rochelle Walensky, Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency head Jen Easterly, and State Department Global Engagement Center director James Rubin seeking documents and testimony about their “censorship” of bullshit COVID conspiracies, the Washington Examiner reports while using the phrase “opposing views” to describe batshittery like COVID vaccines making people magnetic or that 5G signals would turn them into vicious robo-zombies.

“Freedom of speech is one of the most important rights we have in this country,” Jordan told the Washington Examiner. “The collusion between our federal government and Big Tech undermines First Amendment principles and should be investigated,” he added, apparently still under the belief that his investigations have thus far been in any way effective and not a fucking laughing stock.

VoIP company sues Rudy for $30,396 unpaid bill

An Atlanta-based phone company called Momentum Telecom last week filed a complaint in New York against alcoholic shitbrain Rudy Giuliani’s firm over an unpaid $30,396 bill for its services, plus interest and legal fees, the Daily Beast reports on the former NYC mayor being a cheap asshole despite somehow also having the money to pay at least one employee $1 million a year.

Momentum builds for cameras in federal courtrooms

There’s bipartisan momentum in the Senate to allow cameras in federal courtrooms, finally ending the long-standing void of images and video from inside trials and proceedings, with Old Man Charles Grassley telling CBS News it’s really simply a matter of fitting it into the agenda.

Grassley is among a number of Republican and Democratic sponsors to the Sunshine in the Courtroom Act of 2023, giving federal judges discretion to allow news cameras into courts but allowing leeway for when witnesses need their identities protected. “There is an overwhelmingly sense, at least at that level, that Americans deserve to see what’s happening,” said Dem co-sponsor Senator Dick Blumenthal, adding that public interest in January 6th trials and audio access to the Supreme Court were the main precipitating factors. “This is an idea whose time has come.”

Should the Senate find time to vote on it, the next real hurdle would be the House, where it’ll probably get stuck with Freedom Caucasian amendments in which former presidents are exempt from having their trials televised or some other stupid bullshit that will ruin it for everyone.

Republicans freaking out over likely WinRed rate increase

Republicans are raging at their scam fundraising platform WinRed over a likely coming price increase for processing online donations, with the company telling the RNC and the Trump campaign that the 3.94 percent fee isn’t enough to run the operation, the New York Times reports.

WinRed President Gerrit Lansing told the MAGA party his company needs to reimpose a 30 cents per transaction fee that was done away with in 2021 and replaced with an increase from 3.8 to 3.94 percent, in line with the (non-profit) Dem counterpart ActBlue, which charges campaigns 3.95 percent flat per transaction. Now WinRed is telling Republicans it’s going to be 3.94 plus 30 cents per donation in 2024. Which obviously the GOP is not happy to be hearing, but probably pretty necessary to keep the platform running since they lost $6 million last year.

“WinRed is constantly evaluating what it takes to compete against and leapfrog ActBlue, combat the Democrats’ campaign to attack us by all means available, and still make the necessary investments to provide our customers with the features they need to win. At this time, WinRed has no announcements to make regarding pricing,” said WinRed in a statement. Meaning they will start charging more, because they would’ve just said “We’re not going to increase prices,” if they weren’t.

Swalwell is compromised by China because GOP kicked him off a committee for being compromised by China: MAGA Congressman

Texas MAGA Congressman Troy Nehls on Friday told hopefully soon-to-be unemployed Fox News conspiracy freak Maria Bartiromo his evidence that Dem Congressman Eric Swalwell is compromised by the ChiComs is that Republicans removed him from the House Intel Committee because they think he’s compromised by the ChiComs. It makes a lot of sense if you don’t really think about it.

“Donald Trump gave us wokeism”

In a Jewish Insider article about Republican donors either resigned to Trump becoming the party’s 2024 nominee or still foolishly hoping another candidate will knock him off in the primary is one hell of an interesting insight from Republican Jewish Coalition board member Eric Levine.

“Donald Trump gave us wokeism. Donald Trump gave us the progressives. Donald Trump gave us Joe Biden. His losing the Senate intentionally gave the country to the progressives. And then, of course, January 6 speaks for itself,” said Levine, who voted for Trump in 2020 but claims he never will again. It’s not the first time that we’ve seen this line of thought, as the Atlantic’s Anne Appelbaum (not a right-winger) before the 2020 election warned conservatives that if Trump won “a second term, leftist extremism will not be stopped. It will not grow quieter. Instead, extremism will spread, mutate into new forms, and gradually become entrenched in more areas of American life.”

Levine’s definitely overstating it. Trump didn’t create “wokeism” or progressives. He did however ignite a fiery opposition to him and his movement that is frightening enough to a major GOP donor that he’ll go on the record and admit what other Republicans don’t want to say: That Trump more than anyone else alone is to blame for accelerating cultural progress and nominating him again is going to fire up an even louder, angrier, opposition to him than in 2020.

Russian missile attacks kill at least 19 civilians in Ukraine

A barrage of missiles launched at Ukrainian cities on Friday killed at least 19 civilians, 17 of them in a single apartment building in the central city of Uman and two in Dnipro, the Washington Post reports on the continued terrorizing of innocent people in the “territorial dispute.”

“This Russian terror must face a fair response from Ukraine and the world,” President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on his Telegram channel after the attacks. “And it will.”

Newsmax trying to poach Tucker to run entire network

Sources at Newsmax tell TMZ that the far right propaganda network is pushing hard to land Tucker Carlson to be its face and direct all programming. Carlson is still under contract with Fox News and Newsmax can’t move forward yet, but they are beyond thirsty. Nexstar-owned NewsNation is reportedly pushing hard too, and would probably be a better choice for Cucker given Newsmax’s likely coming destruction at the hands of Dominion and Smartmatic.

QAnon Shaman files motion to vacate conviction

With just weeks left on his sentence in a halfway house, infamous Capitol rioter Jacob “QAnon Shaman” Chansley on Thursday filed a motion to vacate his conviction on the grounds that his original lawyer Albert Watkins, the guy who once called his client and fellow MAGA marauders “fucking retarded” and “short-bus people” in an interview, did not review the video footage of Chansley being followed around the Capitol by cops during the insurrection, Politico reports.

It’s not clear why the Shaman and his new attorney, MAGA lawyer William Shipley, think this is going to work. The asshole still carried a spear into the Capitol on that day and could’ve gotten a decade or more in prison had he not pleaded guilty back in September 2021.

Orange Tyrant hugs convicted Capitol rioter

Fat former President Trump hugged convicted Capitol riot misdemeanant Micki Larson-Olson after encountering her in a New Hampshire diner on Thursday, the Washington Post reports. Larson-Olson, a clownish QAnon community figure who wears bizarre wigs and bright blue body suits, is pretty low on the totem pole of January 6th offenders – she didn’t even enter the Capitol on the day and was charged only with resisting police. Still, Trump told her “Listen, you just hang in there,” and “You guys are gonna be okay,” knowing full well Larson-Olsen had been arrested.

South Carolina, Nebraska legislatures fail to advance abortion bans, thanks to Republicans voting to maintain current laws

State Republican legislators in South Carolina and Nebraska balked at oppressive anti-abortion measures, legislation that would effectively ban abortion in those states, a possible sign that mainstream conservatives feel religious zealots running GOP policy may have overstepped the desires of the American people.  Patients in both states can continue to access abortion services up to the 22nd week of pregnancy.

According to the Washington Post, five female state senators took to the floor in South Carolina to decry the near-total abortion ban that was being considered.  One of them, Sandy Senn, compared the legislation to “The Handmaid’s Tale,” saying laws about women’s reproductive health “have always been, each and every one of them, about control — plain and simple. And in the Senate, the males have all the control.”  While the GOP controls two-thirds of the seats in the senate, the bill’s supporters could not break the filibuster thanks to the Republican women crossing the aisle.

In Nebraska, an 80-year-old white man is all that’s standing between safe and legal abortion, and the six-week abortion ban proposed by Republicans in the state.  Republican state senator Merv Riepe told a local outlet that he needed time to consider his position:  “At the end of the day, I need to look back and be able to say to myself, ‘Did you do the best?’  No group came to me, asking me to do this. This is of my own beliefs, my own commitments.”

Army secretly “reinterprets” commissions of hundreds of Army aviators, determines they owe three more years of service

More than 600 Army aviators found their future plans thrown into doubt after the Pentagon announced it had reinterpreted a key part of their contracts that guaranteed them a slot in the aviation service, NBC News reports.

As the military services struggle to recruit and retain personnel, aviators are sought-after professionals in civilian industries which can pay significantly more than military positions.  The new policy was cited by some of the impacted active-duty officers for delaying the start of new businesses or changing wedding plans.

The clause at issue ensured new officers graduating from the U.S. Military Academy or Army Cadet Command between 2008 to 2020 could get a duty assignment of their choice, like aviation, if they committed to serving three more years active duty.  Previously, the Army interpreted that time to run concurrently with their seven- or eight-year contract stemming from their academic commitment. Now, however, a policy review led to a reinterpretation of the contract and the intent of the program.

Crowder spousal “abuse” documented on home security system as he tells his pregnant wife she hasn’t done “wifely things”

“How do you respect the man?” conservative gadfly Steven Crowder asks his now ex-wife in a Ring security camera footage obtained by journalist Yashar Ali.  The three minutes of footage, the longer of the two sections available here, show Crowder berating his very pregnant spouse for failing to do “wifely things” to persuade him to assist with household chores.

The video was released two days after Crowder, who has more than five million followers on YouTube, announced the couple’s 2021 divorce on his channel this week.  (Yes, you read that right:  just this week, he acknowledged a divorce that happened in 2021 and then spent two years telling everyone how spectacularly fantastic his Alpha Male lifestyle worked)  Saying he did not want the divorce, per Jezebel Crowder took to the mic claiming that his wife should not be allowed to divorce such a peach of a guy, but Texas law allows for a no-fault divorce.  Given the video evidence, his wife likely could have sued on the basis of abuse and been granted the decree.  But the tape does give Crowder the leg up on the newly open primetime slot on Fox’s cable network.

Good guy with gun shoots, kills man who duped him in parking scam, then returns to restaurant to continue date

A Texas man on a date who learned from a restaurant employee that he paid $40 to a guy running a parking lot scam returned to his car to retrieve a gun, shot the scammer to death and then returned to his date, the Associated Press reports.

Police say 46-year-old Elliot Nix approached Erick Aguirre and his date at a parking lot by the Rodeo Goat restaurant in Houston saying it cost $20 for each of their cars, which Aguirre paid.  In the restaurant, the 29-year-old Aguirre was told by a restaurant employee that Nix did not work for the parking lot and that he had been scammed.  Aguirre excused himself and left his date waiting for a table while he went to his car, retrieved a gun, and then chased down and shot Nix on April 11th.

Aguirre returned to Rodeo Goat and waited for a few minutes before suggesting he and his date go to another restaurant, to which they had to drive.  Aguirre’s date contacted police after seeing photos of the couple in the parking lot in the media asking for information about the shooting.

Jenny Craig trimming the fat, plans layoffs, closures

Weight loss center operator Jenny Craig told its staff to expect mass layoffs and retail location closures in the coming weeks as the company plans to cease operations of its physical locations, NBC News reports.

Founded in 1983,  Jenny Craig operates around 500 retail locations and weight loss centers in the United States, as well as a mail-order meal program.  It has approximately 200 franchise locations overseas.  The company was acquired by a private equity firm in 2017, and analysts say that the firm is trying to offload the company now.  It’s the latest blow to the retail landscape in the United States, with big box retailer Bed, Bath & Beyond entering Chapter 11 bankruptcy, allegedly losing 20% of revenue on every sale due to a flood of coupons.

Sinema won’t say if she’s actually running for reelection

In an interview with Jewish Insider mostly focused on Israel policy shit far from our usual beat so we’re not going to pretend like we’re interested, scumbag “independent” Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema said she’s “not going to answer” any questions about whether she intends to run for reelection. Which probably means no, but we still can’t count out her trying to help Kari Lake get elected to the Senate over Dem Ruben Gallego because Sinema is that kind of jerkoff.
