MSNBC announced today that Joy Reid will take over the 7 p.m. weekday timeslot vacated by Chris Matthews earlier this year. Her new show will start on July 20th and be called The ReidOut, MSNBC announced this morning.
Since May 2016, Reid hosted the weekend morning show AM Joy on MSNBC. From February 2014 to February 2015, she hosted an early afternoon show on the network called The Reid Report.
The Harvard-educated Reid started her broadcast career in Miami as a co-host of WSVN Channel 7’s morning show, leaving a gig as a business consultant in New York City to start a television career. She later served as the managing editor of thegrio.com from 2011 to 2014.
Chris Matthews abruptly retired from broadcasting on March 2, 2020 after acknowledging he had made inappropriate advances and comments to female colleagues in the past.
