More than 60 Customs and Border Protection employees were disciplined, with four of them fired, for a variety of violent, sexist and racist posts in a secret Facebook group, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported today.
In today, the agency opened 138 investigations, but found roughly half to be baseless. Of the remaining, 38 were suspended without pay, 27 were reprimanded or sent to counseling, and four were fired.
The Facebook group, known as “I’m 10-15”, was named after the police code for having migrants in custody. The posts in the group included dehumanizing and derogatory posts about migrants in Latina members of Congress.
“Customs and Border Protection addresses misconduct that violates our standards of conduct and is contrary to our core values of vigilance, service to country, and integrity,” the spokesperson said in a statement.
