For the third time in the past week, the United States recorded more than 70,000 new cases of coronavirus today, breaking its previous high, according to worldometers.info.
The US had 73,388 new cases today, beating the previous record set just seven days ago by more than 1,100 cases. The nation had 963 registered fatalities on Thursday.
With nearly 14,000 cases, Florida was the state with the most. Texas was the only other state to top 10,000 new cases, with California in third at 9,269.
Those three states also topped the fatality count, with Florida recording 156 deaths.
It marks the 38th consecutive day that the 7-day running average of new cases increased.
