Citing the order by Milwaukee’s Fire and Police Commission to cease the use of tear gas and pepper spray in crowd control, four Wisconsin police departments have withdrawn from their agreements to protect the Democratic National Convention in the city next month, USA Today reports.
Police from Fond du Lac, Franklin, Greendale and West Allis will not participate in the plan to provide 1,000 officers to patrol the city, which will host a minimally-attended DNC, which will still attract protestors.
Milwaukee Police Chief Alfonso Morales told a local news agency that more than 100 local police agencies had withdrawn from the agreement due to the policy change. Morales said options include using National Guard troops or requesting federal help.
