Former Republican Speaker of the House and rewritten historian Newt Gingrich has been ordered by a Virginia judge to testify before the Fulton County, Georgia grand jury regarding his role about the 2020 effort by Donald Trump to overturn Georgia’s certified election, CNN reports.
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis wants to question Gingrich about his role in Trump’s attempt to pressure state elections officials to find or nullify votes to give him victory in Georgia. Gingrich is also suspected of involvement in the plan to present fake electors to Congress January 6th in an effort to undermine the public’s faith in the election results.
Gingrich, who represented Georgia in Congress before being forced out for financial ethical violations, now lives in Virginia and sought relief from the subpoena from Virginia courts. Gingrich indicated that he would appeal the decision.
