Republican former New Hampshire Senator John Sununu on Wednesday officially launched a comeback bid in the Granite State, seeking to take on likely Dem nominee Congressman Chris Pappas for the seat being vacated by retiring D Senator Jeanne Shaheen, who in 2008 defeated the then-incumbent Sununu, WMUR reports. John’s younger brother Chris, who served as governor until this year, famously passed on a bid against other Dem Senator Maggie Hassan in 2022.
Unlike Chris, John has yet to embrace the Orange God Emperor out of political expedience, though he faces a more authentically MAGA primary opponent in another former Senator, Scott Brown, who won a 2010 special in Massachusetts on a fluke after Ted Kennedy died, serving until his 2012 defeat to Liz Warren. Brown then moved to New Hampshire and lost to Shaheen in 2014.
“Sununu’s past opposition to Trump is well-documented, and he said he’s not focused on seeking the president’s endorsement,” WMUR writes and lol that’s not gonna fly if he wants to win.
