With just hours before the filing deadline in Texas on Monday, Dem former Congressman Colin Allred announced he’s dropping out of the Senate primary and will instead run for the House from the state’s 33rd District, WFAA reports. The abrupt exit leaves State Representative James Talarico and (likely) Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett as the two contenders in the Dem primary.
“In the past few days, I’ve come to believe that a bruising Senate Democratic primary and runoff would prevent the Democratic Party from going into this critical election unified against the danger posed to our communities and our Constitution by Donald Trump and one of his Republican bootlickers Paxton, Cornyn, or Hunt. That’s why I’ve made the difficult decision to end my campaign for the US Senate,” said Allred in an exclusive statement to the Dallas-area ABC affiliate.
