Republican Texas Congressman Tony Gonzales on Wednesday was outraged that his far right gun freak primary challenger Brandon Herrera – who has his own liabilities – would dare politicize the tragic and horrific September suicide of Gonzales’s staffer Regina Aviles, the Texas Tribune reports.

“Similar behavior in our military would lead to court-martial and dismissal from service, and we should not hold the political leaders who oversee our armed services to a lower standard than the one to which our fighting men and women are held,” said Herrera in a statement after the San Antonio Express News reported on Tuesday that Aviles had texted a colleague in 2024 to tell him she “had an affair with our boss.” Nominating Gonzales again is a “risk we as a part cannot afford to take,” Herrera added in the oddly disciplined statement for a fucking extremist maniac like him.

Herrera, who came within 400 votes of beating Gonzales last cycle, has some baggage of his own as among the fans of his YouTube channel was Robin Westerman – the sick asshole who shot up a Catholic school in Minnesota, killing two kids last August. Herrera’s also close pals with “Demolitia” Nazi cosplayer Matt Carriker of failed Trump assassin Thomas Crooks’s t-shirt fame. So given the headwinds that Texas Republicans are facing with Latino voters Herrera might be just as risky.

Anyway, Gonzales told the Tribune that “Ms Santos-Aviles was a kind soul who devoted her life to making the community a better place. Her efforts led to improvements in school safety, healthcare, and rural water like never before. It’s shameful that Brandon Herrera is using a disgruntled former staffer to smear her memory and score political points, conveniently pushing this out the very day early voting started. I am not going to engage in these personal smears and instead will remain focused on helping President Trump secure the border and improve the lives of all Texans.”

So yeah, just to reiterate the headline: Tony Gonzales, a married father of six, is outraged that his far right primary opponent, who proudly owns a fully automatic Kalashnikov and seeks to represent the district where 22 kids were slaughtered at their school by a maniac with an AR-15, would politicize the horrific self-immolation suicide of a 35 year-old mom who Tony effed while she worked for him.
