A grand jury in Indiana last week returned a multi-count indictment against Republican Jennings County Sheriff William K “Kenny” Freeman Jr on charges of two misdemeanor counts of theft, as well as low-level felony counts of official misconduct, obstruction of justice, and perjury over Freeman’s fuckery related to the theft of signs for at least two other candidates’ campaigns, WRTV reports.
State law prohibits sheriffs from running more than twice and as Freeman terms out in January he himself is not on the ballot and the reporting did not specify which candidate(s) he was targeting other than to say that one was running to succeed him as the county’s top cop and another’s bid is for a judgeship. Target them he did however as a GPS device embedded in one of the signs had led state troopers to a trash can on Freeman’s property – where they found the other campaign signs.
Rather than resign, apologize, and write, say, a $1,000 check to each campaign, Freeman instead issued a complaint and summons to both candidates regarding the placement of their signs, which led to the felony charges on top of what would’ve been misdemeanors if they were even prosecuted.
