The US Senate on Thursday approved a bill to bind railroad companies and workers to a compromise that was reached in September between the companies and union leaders, the AP reports. The deal did not include additional sick days for workers, who cannot actually call in without being penalized because of a shitty high-efficiency scheduling system designed to maximize profits. It’s not clear if this will actually avert a strike that would cripple the American economy.
