After months of trying to characterize Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden as mentally-unfit and “slow,” republicans are suddenly changing course to raise the bar on Biden’s intelligence in an obvious effort to undermine his debate performance, the Washington Post reports.
As recently as Monday, Trump has said Biden “doesn’t have a clue” and is “a really stupid person.” Trump’s campaign team apparently didn’t get the memo: it’s prepping media and voters to mold Biden into a master orator. The goal: to make any Biden debate performance look like a failure, regardless of how he outshines Trump.
“He’s a politician. He gives speeches. He’s really good at doing it,” Trump campaign manager Bill Stepien said of Biden on a call with reporters Tuesday. “Joe Biden is not formidable anywhere else, but he is formidable on the debate stage. We just hope he shows up.”
